Ø There are
separate rooms that focus on different areas of development that will provide language rich opportunities. Research
shows that language skills are enhanced when movement is incorporated (vestibular activities, tactile stimulation,
use of various manipulatives, etc.).
o
There is a sensory room specifically
designed to stimulate language skills through the use of visual tasks, vestibular activities and proprioceptive
tasks. Children learn through sensory input and motor activity. This room allows children to easily move
around and explore materials.
o
There is an art room that
will use manipulative activities to develop fine motor skills that are necessary for school readiness.
o A
large indoor activity room is utilized for gross motor skills, peer interaction,
social development, and opportunity to generalize communication skills.
Ø Most toys and materials are
out of the children’s reach to enhance opportunities for intentional communication
between teacher and child.
Ø Maximum
child to teacher ratio is from 4:1 to 3:1 based on age groups. Class size never exceeds 8 students (or up
to 9 students for our four and five year old classrooms). Accepted state child to teacher ratio can be
up to 15:1 for older class groups and 5:1 for younger ages. All classes have typically developing peers.
Ø Each classroom has a one-way window to allow parents and staff to observe class room activity without
the child seeing you.
Ø Each classroom is led by a teacher with a B.S. or B.A. degree in education (or an
associated field).
